Radar detectors are often used to detect police that are using radar guns to “shoot” at moving vehicles to determine their current speed. As of now, Virginia and Washington DC are the only places where radar detectors are illegal to use in the United States. Everywhere else is mostly free to use, or free to use with minor stipulations.
